Hi! My name is Lisa Cusumano, and I am from Long Island, NY.  I am 38 years old and married to my wonderful husband for 15 years. We have 3 beautiful boys and a Siberian Husky.  My educational background is in Psychology and Special Education, and I am currently working in the field of Early Intervention, so I work with babies (and their families) from birth – age 3, that have developmental delays or diagnosed conditions.  I lost 56 lbs. to date and have the pleasure of helping other busy women like myself, find what works for them! I have been on the weight gain/loss roller coaster since the time I owned my first Barbie Doll.  No matter what I did, I always struggled with my weight.  Throughout the past 25 years, I have been on every diet known to man, including but not limited to Weight Watchers, Atkins, The Zone, The Cabbage Soup Diet, and even a diet that made me place metal balls behind my ears and massage them every few hours!  I even paid a nutritionist, went to the gym and took nightly walks, when I could squeeze it in around my kids’ schedules of homework, dinner, playdates, baseball, karate, religion, etc..   Did I lose weight? Sometimes. Did I keep it off? Never more than a few weeks at best! Not only did I gain the weight I had lost, but I added on an additional few pounds – each time! Why? I was always hungry! No matter how much I was “allowed” to eat, it didn’t seem to matter. I was still hungry and tired and couldn’t figure out why I was doing all of this work and still feeling less than optimal.  I gave up! At one point I even told myself that I would just have to settle for being heavy. WHAT??? WHY??? Because I gave up on myself. I stopped believing in myself! And quite honestly, it was way to difficult to focus on my health when I was trying to raise 3 kids! For years, I settled and continued to gain weight until eventually, my health started to diminish.

I went to my doctor for my routine physical (only because my job required it).  Well, that was my wake up call!  I thought I was healthy…(other than being overweight of course).  I was wrong.  I had gained so much weight that my blood pressure was through the roof! My doctor told me I would need to go on medication for my pressure because it was so high and I could have a stroke! In addition, my blood work came back indicating issues as well.  I was severely Vitamin D deficient, my cholesterol and triglycerides were high, I was anemic, along with some additional indicators of an unhealthy body.   That doctor’s visit saved my life.  It was then and there that I decided it was time to make my health a priority.  I decided I wanted to live a healthy lifestyle, set the example for my children, and ensure that I do all in my power to be here for my family for as long as possible.

I was lucky enough to find my health and fitness coach after just a few days. She has guided me, encouraged me and most important, believed in me. She introduced me to the fitness program, the 21 Day Fix.  At first I had doubts. Wasn’t Beachbody just for skinny girls and muscle heads? No! I have never been more wrong about anything!   I thought I wouldn’t be able to do the program and exercises after not exercising in literally,  years. But, I knew I had to do something so I figured, “What do I have to lose?”  I bought the Challenge Pack which included Shakeology, with the intention of starting with only the shakes initially, to give myself the dense nutrition I had been missing for so long.   I was optimistic that eventually after I started losing weight and gaining energy, I would try one of the 7 videos (which included an Total Body Cardio workout, Upper Fix, Lower Fix, Cardio, Pilates, Yoga, Dirty 30 and a 10-Minute Abs).  My coach added me to a private Facebook group with other individuals that were on the same journey and everything changed.  I felt like I was part of something bigger. Having this community of others in the same boat as myself made me even more focused.  Together, we have completed fitness programs together and have been able to interact within our group for continued support and accountability. That was all it took to get me started….

I had huge success with the 21 Day Fix.  I was able to follow the simple food plan and complete a 30 minute workout every single day. As a matter of fact, I even looked forward to doing them. After the first round of 21 days, I was down 5 lbs. and 11 inches! More importantly, I felt fantastic!  I went in for round 2 and round 3 and so on! By the end of the 4th round (about 3 months) I was down over 50 pounds and went from wearing size 18 jeans to a size 8.  Naturally, I started sharing my story, as people wanted to know: What was I doing? How was I doing it? How did I feel?  And this is where my coaching journey began!

Seeing how successful I was with the program, I decided it was time to take it to the next level. After all, I was already investing my time in sharing and working with others – why not do it officially with this amazing company?  This gave me the opportunity to help others who have invested in a program for FREE and keep myself accountable, as I am still on my journey.
So many of us struggle with our weight and our health.  Many know what to do but just can’t seem to put it into practice, while others have no idea where to begin.  I often think back to years ago, going back and forth, not knowing what choices to make, such as “Do I add sugar which is natural but will settle on my thighs or do I use artificial sweeteners, that are chemicals, but will keep the weight off?” WOW! Looking back now, realizing how I was fooled by the “Low Fat” campaign.  I wish I knew then what I know now!   I have encountered so many people, mostly mothers like myself, who want to set a good example for their children and encourage a healthy lifestyle, but get caught up in the busy hustle and bustle of day to day activities.  Between family, working full time, children’s events for school and sports, maintaining the house, etc, our health often suffers.  As mothers, we stop making ourselves priority and put everything else first.   I have found a way to invest in my health and make healthy living a priority, not just for me, but for my family.
